The Fairies
TWINKLE from THE FAIRIES BAND
1. Who are you?
Twinkle from the Fairies Band.
2. No, really, who are you?
I’m pregnant with twins, I don’t know who the father is, maybe I should cry
. . .
3. What are you up to at the moment?
I was on a train to Bedford whilst answering these questions, to rehearse for a Fairy gig at In The City. We’ve been using musicians from The
Quireboys to record with and to back us in the gig.
4. What three rules would make up your manifesto?
Three rules…hmmmm…i’d love to say so many. These are definitely 3 strong candidates 1) Follow and
believe in your dreams, even if they seem to take forever to come true just be patient. 2) drink much lager and wine. 3)
don’t be a litterbug, it’s inconsiderate and pointless and lazy!
5. If you were the dictator of a modern industrial country, what would
you abolish? What laws would you implement?
I’m really crap at answering questions like this. It’s not that I don’t have opinions but
I’m not very good at writing them down and I don’t like to hold myself to anything as I do change my mind quite
a lot too.
6. What are your lyrics about?
Dancing, drinking, vegetarians, sex, love, credit cards, getting lost when you’re really pissed, two songs are about me, pinks socks,
stiletto shoes, cows, being nine years old…all sorts of stuff really.
7. What is your opinion on the contemporary music scene? What do you
like/dislike?
Don’t really like NME, or more I don’t like the dictatorship power it has over the music world. I like a good night that happens at Cargo every
tuesday called Demo City. It’s a great place for unsigned bands to play and it shows a real diverse selection of bands too. I like a band
from Brighton called Puscha, think they could be really big soon, don’t like
Girls Aloud or any crap like that. Do like Kings of Leon. I’m a bit bored and cringe
a lot at all the droney bands there are around at the moment, can’t stand music like Dido, Coldplay, Drone Drone Drone. What’s the point, except for I
suppose It makes the more energetic bands look even better than they already
are.
8. What distinguishes you from your peers?
I would say our fairyness distinguishes us from our peers, we have been friends since we were 9 and two of us are sisters so our friendship is
really strong and is a big part of who we are. Our music is quite random too, many different people write for us and we love it that way, we get a
broader selection of sounds and add our fairyness style to them.
9. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Shitty, erm…Just doing whatever it is I want to be doing at that point in my life. I’m also an artist and so I would love to see my work and the
success of it (I do paintings) escalate over the next few years, maybe a number 1 on top of the pops, oh and fairies have always wanted to be on CD
UK, what a hoot!
10. Any regrets?
No, only pissing off the door men at The Old Blue Last. It’s my favourite pub in Old st where we live and I hope i’m allowed back in there
next time I try, fairies got a bit out of hand in there on my birthday weekend…
