Perico
MATT CAMERON from Perico
1. Who are you?
My name is Matt Cameron.
2. No, really, who are you?
Well, I am the singer/songwriter of Bournemouth based band Perico.
3. What are you up to at the moment?
The band and I are very excited at the moment. We have two special gigs taking place this Saturday. The first is an invitation from “Lost Vagueness”
(www.lostvagueness.com) to play at their annual festival in Sussex. Glastonbury goers will know LV from the tent they have each year in the
Green Field – should be fun! We won’t be able to stick around though as we will then have to drive 3 hours along the coast for a gig in Dorset.
It’s an all-night party by some beautiful caves, with DJs, bands and all sorts of
entertainment. We are gonna do a set while everyone watches the sun come up.
Hoowee!! Check it out on www.fishseeksbicycle.com.
4. What three rules would make up your manifesto?
Rule 1 – Let nothing but your conscience be your ruler
Rule 2 – Let nothing but your conscience be your ruler
Rule 3 – Let nothing but your conscience be your ruler
5. If you were the dictator of a modern industrial country, what would
you abolish? What laws would you implement?
If it was Britain I would put a curfew on all the LADS that go out “on the town” on a Saturday night – As for implementing new laws, well, anything
that makes the UK more European and less American would be good.
6. What are your lyrics about?
Having said all this I do prefer poetry to politics so they are never preachy. Travel, hedonism, my special group of friends, space and time –
that’s what I write about mostly.
7. What is your opinion on the contemporary music scene? What do you
like/dislike?
I’m not too cynical about the music scene at the moment – if you look hard enough
you’ll see there are loads of new and exciting bands coming through – what I hate at the moment though is this tendency to put a handful
of mediocre bands up on a pedestal and thrash them down your throat – the industry is so much more than Snow Patrol or Scissor
Sisters.
8. What distinguishes you from your peers?
I stay up later than my peers – sleep is a luxury which I can ill afford!
9. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In five years time Ill either be touring with the band or having a break from it all in a far-away place.
10. Any regrets?
Regrets? Not yet, lets wait and hope!
