1. Who are you?
I am Kimya Dawson.
2. No, really, who are you?
I am Jeepie and Maria Dawson’s girl. Kwame and Akida’s sister. Skyler’s aunt. and a bunch of people’s friend.
I like to travel and sing songs. I like to play games. I like the beach and rollercoasters and corn.
I don’t need to sleep very much. I dream about escalators and sitting in the grass.
I like to draw giraffes and bunnies and monkeys and kitties and boners. I like it when my friends sing songs and draw pictures.
I like to dance like a
crazy old lady. I like to dress like a crazy old lady. Someday I will be a crazy old lady.
I am practicing now so when I really am one I will be so
good at it..
3. What are you up to at the moment?
Today is Skyler’s 2nd day of preschool, so I got up early to say “see you later!” he looked so cute with his hoodie and his blues clues backpack.
I have been on tour almost all year. It is good to be home. Tomorrow I am going to
Maine to play in a barn. that is exciting. On the 25th I am playing
in the forest in Connecticut. I am bored with bars. They are fine to play in
but it is definitely more fun to play in weird places, especially weird outside places.
The show in the forest will have free pb&j and then a bike
ride after. I played a backyard show in California with karaoke and wiffle ball and a
piñata and sleepover.
The best summer ever is smoothly sailing
into the best fall ever. Usually I have a tough seasonal transition around this time.
I seem to be doing okay right now though.
4. What three rules would make up your manifesto?
Make your dream life your real life.
Hugs are better than drugs.
Be true to you and do your very best.
5. If you were the dictator of a modern industrial country, what would
you abolish? What laws would you implement?
First I would abolish the dictatorship. then i would hug everyone.
6. What are your lyrics about?
All kinds of things. I have tons and tons of lyrics. They are all true.
Even the fairy tales.
7. What is your opinion on the contemporary music scene? What do you
like/dislike?
I am not sure there is one contemporary music scene. if you mean the adult contemporary scene, well, they haven’t really let me in yet.
I think I
will break in soon as more youngsters play my CDs for their moms. moms love me.
They get different jokes. My adult contemporary jokes are veiled so the kids don’t realize
I am an old bag. I ride that line nicely.
8. What distinguishes you from your peers?
My saddlebags and my haircuts.
9. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I don’t even know what I am doing next week. I do know I will be doing whatever
I want to be doing in 5 years time. And I will be doing it like a
maniac.
10. Any regrets?
No regrets. I learn from my mistakes and apologize to people I wronged.
